Lufthansa Boeing 787 News

Several Lufthansa employees were injured after a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered a nose landing gear collapse while parked at Frankfurt Airport in Germany on Thursday. The incident occurred shortly before the aircraft was scheduled to operate Lufthansa Flight LH450 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, prompting an emergency response and an immediate investigation into the cause of the failure.

According to Lufthansa, the aircraft was stationed at its departure gate when the nose gear unexpectedly gave way at around 12:45 p.m. local time. At the time of the incident, passengers had not yet boarded the aircraft. However, several crew members and ground staff were on board or working around the aircraft when the collapse occurred. The airline confirmed that multiple employees sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

Images and videos from the scene showed the front section of the Boeing 787-9 resting close to the ground after the collapse. Emergency vehicles quickly surrounded the aircraft as airport rescue teams secured the area and assisted injured personnel. Reports also indicated that a ground service vehicle became trapped beneath part of the aircraft during the incident, highlighting the severity of the mechanical failure.

Lufthansa stated that the affected aircraft is one of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, a relatively new addition to the airline’s long-haul fleet. The carrier has been expanding its Dreamliner operations as part of a broader fleet modernization strategy focused on improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.

Airport operations at Frankfurt continued while authorities worked to assess the damage and determine the exact circumstances behind the collapse. Lufthansa said it is cooperating with aviation authorities and technical experts to establish what caused the nose landing gear to fail while the aircraft was stationary.

The incident has attracted significant attention within the aviation industry because it involved a modern widebody aircraft on the ground before departure. While no passengers were affected, the event resulted in injuries to airline personnel and the cancellation of the scheduled Los Angeles service. Investigators are expected to examine maintenance records, technical systems, and operational procedures as part of the inquiry. Lufthansa has not yet provided a timeline for when the damaged aircraft will return to service.
