Abra Group and CFM expand partnership with LEAP-1A engine order

FARNBOROUGH, England – July 21, 2026 – CFM International and Abra Group, parent of Avianca and GOL, today announced that Avianca has selected CFM LEAP-1A engines to power 50 previously unallocated aircraft in its remaining 134-aircraft Airbus A320neo family order – together with a comprehensive services package to support Abra Group’s long-term operational needs, that includes spare engines and long-term services, the latter of which will also cover GOL’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

When taken together, Avianca A320neo family aircraft and GOL 737 MAX aircraft, both in service and in backlog, will result in an installed base of more than 650 LEAP-powered aircraft across Abra Group’s brands. Alongside the existing fleet of 176 CFM56-powered aircraft operated by Avianca and GOL, these commitments underscore the depth of the relationship between Abra and CFM, further solidifying Abra’s position as CFM’s largest operator in Latin America.

With more than 10,000 engines delivered to date, CFM LEAP engines have experienced the fastest ramp in commercial aviation history. CFM continues to upgrade the LEAP fleet with a high-pressure turbine (HPT) durability kit to extend time on wing and a reverse bleed system (RBS) to lower airline maintenance burden. The company is focused on delivering high engine availability through exceptional MRO performance and competitive cost of ownership, with the benefits of aftermarket competition through its open MRO ecosystem.
