Philippine Airlines (PAL), the national flag carrier of the Philippines, is set to become the newest member of the oneworld Alliance, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s global expansion strategy. The announcement was made during the 82nd Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

With its entry into the alliance, Philippine Airlines will become the 16th member airline of oneworld, strengthening the alliance’s presence in Southeast Asia and expanding connectivity options for travelers across the Asia-Pacific region. The move follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PAL and oneworld representatives.

The addition of Philippine Airlines is expected to bring 31 new destinations into the oneworld network, many of which are located within the Philippines. The airline currently serves an extensive domestic and international route network connecting Asia, North America, Australia, the Middle East, and other key markets.

PAL President Lucio C. Tan III described the development as a defining moment for the airline, highlighting that membership in the alliance will provide travelers with greater choice, improved connectivity, and a more seamless travel experience. oneworld executives also welcomed the carrier, noting that Philippine Airlines’ strong reputation for customer service and its strategic position in Southeast Asia make it a valuable addition to the alliance.

Once the integration process is completed, members of Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Miles frequent flyer program will gain access to reciprocal earning and redemption opportunities across the entire oneworld network. Eligible passengers will also be able to enjoy alliance benefits such as priority services, lounge access, and streamlined travel experiences when flying with participating member airlines.

Founded in 1941, Philippine Airlines is Asia’s oldest commercial airline and operates a fleet of 84 aircraft, including the Airbus A350-1000. The airline serves 69 destinations across 19 countries and territories and has been recognized for its operational performance and service quality in recent years.

The alliance membership is expected to be completed in the coming year, further enhancing PAL’s global reach while offering passengers expanded travel opportunities through one of the world’s leading airline alliances.
