Redbird Aviation Crash Near Baramati Airport: Trainee Pilot Escapes Safely

Redbird Aviation Crash Today
A two-seater training aircraft operated by Redbird Aviation crash-landed near Baramati Airport in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning during a routine training session. The incident happened near Gojubavi village, close to the airport boundary, creating concern among local residents and aviation authorities.
According to preliminary reports, the aircraft took off from Baramati Airport between 8:30 AM and 8:50 AM local time. Only a trainee pilot was onboard at the time of the crash. Fortunately, the pilot survived the accident and did not suffer any major injuries.
Officials from Pune Rural Police and airport authorities said the aircraft was flying at a low altitude when it reportedly developed a technical problem. Eyewitnesses near the area claimed that the pilot attempted an emergency landing after noticing the issue. During the emergency maneuver, a part of the aircraft allegedly hit a light pole before the plane crashed into an open field near the airport perimeter.
Airport officials and emergency teams quickly reached the crash site after receiving information about the accident. Technical experts have started examining the damaged aircraft, while a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Baramati Airport Director Shivaji Taware confirmed that the aircraft belonged to Redbird Aviation Academy, a well-known pilot training institute. He stated that authorities are currently reviewing all technical and operational details related to the flight.
This latest accident has once again raised concerns about aviation safety at Baramati Airport, especially because it comes only a few months after another major air tragedy in the same region. In January 2026, a Learjet 45XR operated by VSR Ventures crashed while attempting to land at the airport in poor visibility and dense fog conditions. The crash killed all five people onboard, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, his security officer, two pilots, and a flight attendant. Reports stated that the aircraft burst into flames after impact during its second landing attempt on Runway 11.
Redbird Aviation has also witnessed several training aircraft incidents in recent years near Baramati. In August 2025, another trainer aircraft made a crash landing after a tyre problem caused the front wheel to detach during touchdown. The trainee pilot escaped safely in that incident as well.
Similarly, in October 2023, a Redbird Aviation Tecnam P2008JC aircraft crashed near the airfield after developing a technical snag during landing practice. Just a few days later, another Redbird training aircraft suffered engine failure and crash-landed during a sector training flight carrying an instructor and a student pilot.
Although most of these training accidents did not result in fatalities, repeated incidents involving training aircraft have increased discussions around aircraft maintenance, pilot training standards, and emergency preparedness.
Authorities are expected to submit a detailed report after completing the technical investigation into Wednesday’s crash. Meanwhile, aviation experts believe that stricter safety checks and regular inspections may help prevent similar incidents in the future.
