Jaipur: An accident involving an NCC microlight aircraft and a ground handling vehicle took place at Jaipur International Airport on Monday morning. The incident occurred while the aircraft was taxiing from the apron area towards the runway for a training flight.

The microlight aircraft was carrying a Wing Commander and an NCC trainee cadet at the time of the incident. Fortunately, both the pilot and the trainee were safe and there were no reports of injuries. However, the aircraft was damaged in the collision.

According to sources, the NCC microlight aircraft had left its hangar early in the morning and was moving towards the runway as part of the takeoff procedure. During this time, a vehicle belonging to ground handling agency Indothai was also moving inside the airport premises. The two vehicles came into contact in the apron area, resulting in damage to the aircraft.

The incident caused concern among airport officials and employees. Following the collision, the aircraft and the ground handling vehicle were secured, and the concerned authorities were informed about the accident. The aircraft is expected to undergo a detailed technical inspection before it is allowed to operate again.

The incident has also raised questions about ground vehicle management and coordination at Jaipur Airport. The apron is a sensitive area where aircraft, service vehicles and other airport equipment operate close to each other. Proper communication, monitoring and adherence to safety procedures are therefore important to prevent such incidents.

Questions have also been raised about the role of the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) and the system used to monitor the movement of ground vehicles. At this stage, a lapse in ground vehicle management is being suspected, but the exact cause of the collision has not yet been established.

The airport authorities are investigating the incident to determine how the aircraft and ground vehicle were allowed to move in the same area and whether all required safety protocols were followed. Investigators are also expected to examine whether proper communication and coordination took place between the concerned teams.

The incident is considered significant because the microlight aircraft is used for NCC flying training. The biggest relief is that both the Wing Commander and the NCC trainee cadet escaped the accident safely. A detailed investigation and technical inspection will determine the next steps for the damaged aircraft and help identify measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
