IndiGo News: New Vijayawada-Varanasi-Kolkata Flight Services Launched

Vijayawada: IndiGo has started new flight services connecting Vijayawada with Varanasi and Kolkata, giving passengers more travel options between Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The new services were launched on Thursday at Vijayawada International Airport.
The new flight route is expected to improve air connectivity for passengers travelling between the three cities. The launch event was attended virtually by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath and Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkata Rao also attended the event.
The new Vijayawada-Varanasi-Kolkata flight services will operate three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
According to the schedule, IndiGo flight 6E 6501 will leave Kolkata at 2:15 pm and reach Varanasi at 3:25 pm. After a short halt, the flight will depart Varanasi at 3:55 pm and arrive in Vijayawada at 5:50 pm.
The return service, flight 6E 6502, will depart Vijayawada at 6:20 pm and reach Varanasi at 8:15 pm. It will then leave Varanasi at 8:50 pm and reach Kolkata at 10:15 pm.
The inaugural service received a strong response from passengers. On the first day, 89 passengers arrived in Vijayawada from Varanasi, while 129 passengers travelled from Vijayawada to Varanasi.
Union Minister Rammohan Naidu said the government is working to further improve air connectivity from Vijayawada. He said flights to Pune, Ahmedabad and Cochin are proposed to be added soon.
The minister also spoke about plans for a hub-and-spoke model involving Vijayawada airport. Under this system, passengers could complete customs and immigration procedures at Vijayawada before travelling to major international hub airports for connecting flights.
The government is also working to complete the new integrated terminal building at Vijayawada airport at the earliest. The terminal is expected to feature designs inspired by local art and culture.
Officials also discussed future seaplane operations from locations including Prakasam Barrage, Srisailam, Hussain Sagar and Nagarjuna Sagar.
Local representatives also requested more international connectivity from Vijayawada. There was a demand for a Vijayawada-Dubai flight, which could help passengers connect with several global destinations.
The new IndiGo services are expected to strengthen Vijayawada’s role as an important regional aviation hub and provide passengers with more convenient travel options.
