Bhogapuram Airport News: Visakhapatnam Airport Ends Scheduled Flights

Bhogapuram Airport News
Visakhapatnam Airport has ended its scheduled commercial passenger flight operations, marking a major change for air travellers in Andhra Pradesh. From August 17, 2026, regular flights serving Visakhapatnam are operating from the newly opened Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.
The shift means passengers travelling to or from Visakhapatnam will now have to use the Bhogapuram airport for scheduled commercial flights.
The Civil Enclave at INS Dega, which served as Visakhapatnam Airport for several decades, handled its last scheduled commercial passenger flight on August 16. IndiGo operated the final scheduled service, flight 6E 2018 to Delhi.
Following this flight, regular passenger services were moved from the old airport to the new Bhogapuram facility. The move is an important step in the development of aviation infrastructure in the region.
Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram has now taken over scheduled passenger operations for Visakhapatnam. Airlines have shifted their regular services to the new airport, providing passengers with a modern facility for domestic and future international travel.
Passengers with upcoming flights should carefully check their airport details before leaving home. Travellers who previously used the Civil Enclave at INS Dega should not go there for a regular scheduled passenger flight.
One important point for passengers is the airport code VTZ. Although the airport location has changed, the VTZ code has been transferred to Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport.
This means passengers may continue to see VTZ on flight tickets, airline websites and booking platforms. However, they should check the complete airport name to avoid confusion.
The old Visakhapatnam Airport has not completely shut down. While scheduled commercial passenger flights have stopped, other non-scheduled civil aviation operations may continue. The Indian Navy will also continue its operations at INS Dega.
The transition from Visakhapatnam Airport to Bhogapuram is a significant development for the region. Passengers should check flight updates, confirm the airport name and plan extra travel time while adjusting to the new arrangement.
