Construction work on the new integrated terminal building at Vijayawada International Airport is expected to be completed by October 15, 2026. Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the contractor to speed up the remaining work and meet the new deadline.

The minister visited the terminal construction site at Gannavaram airport on Tuesday and reviewed the progress of the project. During the inspection, he assessed the physical work being carried out at the new terminal and instructed officials to complete the project as quickly as possible.

According to the minister, the terminal project had faced delays earlier because of issues related to the contractor. A new contractor has now been appointed, and construction work has been accelerated.

Naidu said the problems that had affected the project have been addressed and work is now progressing at a faster pace. He directed the concerned agencies to maintain the speed of construction so that the terminal can be completed within the October 15 deadline.

The Centre and Andhra Pradesh government are both committed to completing the new terminal at the earliest, according to the minister.

The upcoming integrated terminal is expected to have a strong cultural theme. The design will showcase the culture and traditions of Andhra Pradesh and the Telugu people.

Naidu said cultural elements would receive special importance in the terminal’s design, similar to the approach being followed at the new Bhogapuram airport.

The terminal will include design features inspired by the Krishna River and the Kanaka Durga Temple, which are important symbols associated with Vijayawada and the region.

These elements are intended to give the airport a distinct identity and connect the modern terminal with the area’s cultural and historical heritage.

The integrated terminal is being developed to strengthen infrastructure at Vijayawada International Airport. With the airport serving passengers from Vijayawada and surrounding areas, the new facility is expected to provide improved services and a better overall experience.

The completion of the terminal will be an important step for the airport’s future development. Faster construction is now a priority as authorities work towards meeting the October 15 target.

The minister’s visit reflects the government’s focus on closely monitoring major aviation infrastructure projects. Officials from AAI and the construction agency are expected to continue coordinating to ensure that the remaining work is completed on time.

The project had experienced delays in the past, but officials now believe that construction can move ahead more quickly after the appointment of the new contractor.

The new Vijayawada airport terminal is expected to combine modern airport facilities with regional cultural features. Once completed, it will add a new dimension to Vijayawada’s aviation infrastructure while highlighting the heritage of Andhra Pradesh and the Telugu community.
