High Court Seeks Details on Transport Connectivity at Bhogapuram Airport

Bhogapuram Airport News

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has sought detailed information about transport connectivity between Visakhapatnam city and Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram. The court’s move follows concerns raised by petitioners about inadequate public transport and long travel times for passengers travelling to the new airport.

A retired IRS officer, M Ramarao, along with two others, approached the High Court claiming that road connectivity to Bhogapuram airport remains inadequate. They said that passengers are facing difficulties because there are not enough public transport options available between Visakhapatnam and the airport.

According to the petitioners, incomplete connectivity works have resulted in travel times of nearly two hours in some cases. Because of this, many passengers are reportedly depending on private vehicles and taxis to reach the airport.

During the hearing, Andhra Pradesh Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas informed the court that regular APSRTC bus services are available between Visakhapatnam and Bhogapuram airport.

He also said that 20 dedicated electric buses are operating on the route. These buses are reportedly available from 4 am to 7 pm. In addition to public buses, taxi and car-rental services are also available for passengers.

The government told the court that these facilities were being provided to improve connectivity between the city and the airport.

After hearing the government’s submissions, the High Court raised an important question about whether airport flight operations are limited to the same hours as the dedicated electric bus services.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice Challa Gunaranjan, directed the state government to provide complete details of the airport’s flight schedules and the transport services available during those timings.

The court’s direction is aimed at understanding whether passengers arriving or departing outside the bus operating hours have sufficient public transport options.

Bhogapuram airport has become an important aviation facility for the Visakhapatnam region, but its distance from the city has made transport connectivity a major concern.

Passengers who do not have access to private vehicles may have to depend on taxis or other private transport services, particularly when flights operate early in the morning or later in the evening.

The availability of transport at the right time is important because passengers need to reach the airport well before their scheduled departure. Similarly, arriving passengers need reliable options to travel back to Visakhapatnam after landing.

The High Court has now asked the state government to submit complete information about flight timings and corresponding transport facilities between Visakhapatnam and Bhogapuram airport.

The information will help the court assess whether existing public transport services are sufficient for passengers and whether bus schedules are properly aligned with airport operations.

The case highlights the importance of developing strong road and public transport connectivity along with airport infrastructure. As Bhogapuram airport handles more passengers and flights, reliable and timely transport services will remain essential for people travelling between Visakhapatnam and the airport.
