Lufthansa Technik expands its partnership with Japan Airlines to support the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet
- Renewal of Total Component Support agreement for at least five additional years

Lufthansa Technik and Japan Airlines have signed a renewal of their Total Component Support (TCS) agreement for the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet at MRO Asia-Pacific in Singapore. The extended agreement runs for at least five additional years and, at the latest, through 2036, covering up to 67 aircraft. Compared with the previous contract, the scope has been expanded through additional part-number coverage, further strengthening the breadth of component support for Japan Airlines.
Under the TCS agreement, Lufthansa Technik provides maintenance, reliability management, and logistics services for a wide range of components installed on Japan Airlines’ Dreamliners. The comprehensive support model, which also offers Japan Airlines access to Lufthansa Technik’s worldwide pool of spare parts, is designed to secure long-term operational reliability for one of the largest Boeing 787 fleets in service worldwide.
Furthermore, Lufthansa Technik and Japan Airlines announced a new contract for exclusive Boeing 787 GEnx-1B engine thrust reverser and inlet cowl support. The contract, running for five years, covers spare and repair services that are performed by Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen (LTS). The signing marks a milestone in strengthening the long-established cooperation of LTS with Japan Airlines.
One of the most comprehensive and enduring MRO partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region
The collaboration between Lufthansa Technik and Japan Airlines dates back nearly 20 years. In 2011, the first TCS agreement for the Boeing 787 fleet was concluded. Over the following years, the partnership expanded significantly: in 2018, a TCS agreement for Japan Airlines’ Airbus A350 fleet was added, followed in 2019 by an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) agreement for the A350. Lufthansa Technik also provides Single Component Maintenance (SCM) support for Japan Airlines’ Boeing fleet and Airframe Related Component (ARC) support through Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen. The latter has actually been in place since 2007.
