Bhogapuram Airport News

The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated comprehensive health precautions across major transport hubs to safeguard the state against the Ebola virus. Strict passenger health screening protocols have been deployed across three international airports and three major seaports.

According to G Veerappandian, Secretary for Health, specialized medical teams have been stationed to inspect incoming international travelers for symptoms at Tirupati, Bhogapuram, and Vijayawada airports. Corresponding health checkpoints and screening procedures have also been established at the key maritime gateways of Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Nellore.

To ensure emergency protocols function seamlessly, the state health department will conduct a statewide mock drill on November 12, 2026. Directed by Health Secretary Veerappandian and Health Commissioner Chakradhar Babu, the drill will evaluate team readiness, isolation procedures, and rapid response capabilities.

To handle potential cases rapidly without delays, samples from suspected patients will be processed at designated advanced laboratories:

  • Central Facility: ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.
  • Regional VRDL Units: Andhra Medical College (Visakhapatnam), SVIMS (Tirupati), and Government Siddhartha Medical College (Vijayawada).

The protective measures follow alarming global health statistics. Global data recorded through October 31, 2026, shows a total of 10,498 confirmed Ebola cases and 5,107 reported deaths across five affected nations:

  • Democratic Republic of the Congo: 10,467 confirmed cases and 5,103 deaths.
  • Uganda: 20 confirmed cases and 2 deaths.
  • Kenya: 9 confirmed cases and 2 deaths.
  • Nigeria: 1 confirmed case.
  • France: 1 confirmed imported case.

Given the high fatality rate of the virus, health authorities are leaving nothing to chance, enforcing strict vigilance across all coastal and air entry corridors.
