Motorists parking at Chennai airport will have to pay slightly more from Sunday, October 11. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has raised parking fees by 5 percent. The new rates are rounded to the nearest Rs 5. In a statement issued on Saturday, AAI said the hike is part of the contract agreement.

Car owners will notice a small increase in short-stay charges. Parking for up to 30 minutes now costs Rs 90, up from Rs 85. The fee for 30 minutes to one hour has gone from Rs 110 to Rs 115. For one to two hours, drivers will now pay Rs 175 instead of Rs 165. A car parked for 10 to 24 hours will be charged Rs 580, and each additional day will cost Rs 345.

Two-wheeler riders get some relief. Charges for stays of up to two hours remain unchanged. For longer stays, the cost goes up by only Rs 5 to Rs 10. Each additional day for a two-wheeler costs Rs 45.

Bigger vehicles are charged on a steeper scale. Tempos, buses and trucks with fewer than 16 seats must pay Rs 345 for up to two hours and Rs 1,155 for 10 to 24 hours. Vehicles with more than 16 seats will pay Rs 695 and Rs 2,315 for the same periods.

The pickup fee for commercial vehicles, including radio taxis, app-based cabs and prepaid taxis, stays at Rs 45 per entry. Valet parking will cost Rs 175 in addition to the actual parking charge.

Passengers who lose their parking ticket will have to pay Rs 580 plus the parking charges for cars and buses. For two-wheelers, the lost ticket fee is Rs 175. Monthly passes for airline and concessionaire staff cost Rs 580 for cars and Rs 230 for two-wheelers.

For short visits, the increase is small, with most car owners paying only Rs 5 to Rs 10 extra. However, those who leave their vehicles for a full day or longer will feel the change more. Travellers may plan their parking time carefully or choose cab services, as taxi pickup fees have not changed.
