Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has recorded a strong increase in mango cargo handling during the 2026 mango season. The airport handled 1,226 tonnes of mangoes between April and July 2026, marking a 33% year-on-year growth compared with the same period last year.
The rise highlights the growing international demand for Indian mangoes and the important role played by Bengaluru airport in transporting the seasonal fruit to overseas markets.
According to Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), around 2.63 million pieces of mangoes were shipped from Bengaluru airport to 38 international destinations between April and July.
The shipments were handled by 16 airlines, showing the strong international network available for mango exporters using KIA. The United Kingdom and the United States were the leading destinations for mango shipments during the period.
The increase in cargo volumes reflects the continued demand for Indian mangoes in international markets. Mangoes are a seasonal product, so maintaining quality during transportation is especially important for exporters.
Bengaluru airport uses specialised cold-chain infrastructure to handle mango cargo. The shipments are processed through WFS BLR Coolport, which provides temperature-controlled facilities for perishable goods.
The facility has dedicated temperature zones designed for different cargo requirements. These include areas maintained at 2°C to 8°C, -15°C to -25°C and 15°C to 25°C.
The temperature-controlled system is used throughout the handling process for mango shipments. This helps maintain suitable conditions for the fruit while it is being processed and prepared for international transportation.
The growth in mango handling shows the importance of Bengaluru airport as a gateway for India’s agricultural exports. Efficient airport cargo infrastructure allows exporters to connect quickly with overseas markets, particularly for products that have a limited shelf life.
BIAL said the increase reflects sustained international demand for Indian mangoes. The airport’s integrated cold-chain network is designed to support the efficient and reliable movement of seasonal produce.
The availability of specialised facilities and international airline connections can also help exporters maintain product quality while reducing the risks associated with transporting perishable goods over long distances.
The United Kingdom and the United States remained the top destinations for mango shipments from Bengaluru during the period. The connection with 38 international destinations gives exporters access to a wide range of markets.
