Police officials later handed over the passengers to the Singjamei Police Station along with 79 pieces of luggage.
During the inspection, officials recovered a total of 519 bottles of IMFL from the luggage. The seized liquor included bottles from several well-known brands. The brands reportedly included Jack Daniel’s, Jameson, Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Absolut Vodka, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Blue Label, Black Label, Red Label and Monkey Shoulder.
Other brands found in the consignment included Singleton, Bushkill, Irish Smith, Jacob’s Creek, Cotton Mouth Wine and Indri. The 15 passengers were detained in connection with the recovery. Police are now investigating the circumstances under which the large quantity of liquor was being transported.
The authorities will examine the passengers’ travel details and the source and intended destination of the liquor. Investigators are also expected to check whether the passengers were acting individually or were connected to a larger network involved in the transportation of liquor.
