Experienced Textron Aviation pilot compares TRU Simulation’s Cessna Skyhawk Veris VR device to flying the aircraft

Experienced Textron Aviation pilot, Rosa Lee Argotsinger, shares how the Cessna Skyhawk Veris recreates the environment and feel of flying the aircraft

Recently at NBAA-BACE, TRU Simulation showcased its latest advancements in pilot training, including the show debut of the Cessna Skyhawk Veris Virtual Reality Flight Training Device (FTD). The new device expands TRU’s Veris product line into fixed-wing training, combining immersive virtual reality technology with a physical cockpit environment designed to support the next generation of flight training. To put that experience to the test, Rosa Lee Argotsinger, vice president of Flight Operations at Textron Aviation and an experienced pilot, took the controls to see firsthand how flying the Veris compares with flying the Cessna Skyhawk.

The training experience goes beyond what the pilot sees through the VR headset. The Veris platform uses a fully electric six-degrees-of-freedom motion base, TRU’s REALFeel control loading system and tactile cockpit panels designed to let pilots interact with switches and avionics similarly to the aircraft.

The Cessna Skyhawk Veris is one example of how TRU Simulation is expanding access to advanced, high-fidelity training for pilots and training organizations. With US Aviation Academy committed to purchasing five devices, with an option for 10 additional units, the program is moving immersive simulation technology into more training environments. By giving pilots a high-fidelity solution to practice procedures, build familiarity and prepare for situations that may be difficult to replicate in the aircraft, the Cessna Skyhawk Veris can help students approach each flight with greater proficiency and confidence.
