Jeypore Airport Expansion: Odisha Govt to Acquire 244 Acres for Major Upgrade

Jeypore Airport Expansion
The Odisha government has started plans to expand Jeypore Airport to improve air travel and support development in southern Odisha.
Officials said about 244 acres of land from three villages will be taken for this project. The proposal has been sent to the government and land acquisition will begin after approval.
At present, the airport has limited flights under the UDAN scheme. It connects Jeypore with Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam.
The airport was opened in 2022. Now, the government wants to upgrade it so bigger 72-seater aircraft can land here.
The runway will be extended from 1,200 metres to 2,700 metres. This will also help flights operate in all weather and at all times.
Security and other airport facilities will also be improved. Around 50 acres of land needed for the project already belongs to the government.
Officials say the expansion will improve travel, boost tourism, and help local business and jobs in the region.
After the expansion, more airlines may start services from Jeypore. This will make travel faster for people who currently depend on long road journeys to reach other airports. The project is also expected to help students, patients, and business travellers.
Construction work is likely to begin after all approvals and land handover are completed. Local people may also get job opportunities during the building phase and later in airport operations.
