Mumbai Airport News

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will temporarily close both of its runways for six hours on November 19. The closure is part of the airport’s yearly post-monsoon maintenance programme.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), the company that runs the airport, has said that runways 09/27 and 14/32 will not be in use from 11 am to 5 pm IST on November 19. During this time, no flights will be able to take off or land at the airport.

Heavy rain during the monsoon season can damage runways and the equipment around them. After the monsoon ends, airports usually check and repair their runways. This work can include fixing surface damage, checking the lights and signs, and making sure all safety systems are working properly. Regular maintenance helps keep the runways safe for aircraft to use throughout the year.

Mumbai’s airport is unusual because it has two runways that cross each other. Because of this layout, only one runway can usually be used at a time. Maintenance work on both runways on the same day is planned carefully, and the airport has chosen a fixed time window to finish it.
