Cathay Pacific Data Breach Exposes Passenger Details in 53,000 Flight Bookings

Cathay Pacific News
Cathay Pacific has confirmed a data breach involving approximately 53,000 flight bookings after an unauthorised party accessed passenger reservation records held by its technology service provider, Amadeus IT Group.
The incident affected booking records created between August 2023 and September 2026. The compromised information included passenger names, booking reference numbers and flight details.
In a smaller number of cases, additional personal information, including email addresses, phone numbers, travel document details and frequent flyer numbers, may also have been compromised.
Cathay Pacific said it was informed about the incident by Amadeus on October 28, 2026, and received further details the following day. The unauthorised access reportedly involved login credentials assigned to a system account.
The airline confirmed that its own systems and flight operations were not affected. It also said there was no evidence that passenger payment or financial information had been accessed.
Amadeus has taken steps to contain the incident, including resetting the affected password and strengthening its security monitoring systems. The company has also reported no evidence of misuse of the information accessed so far.
Cathay Pacific said it has informed the relevant authorities and is continuing to investigate the incident. The airline will contact affected passengers individually once it completes the review of the compromised records.
The airline also apologised to customers for the concern and inconvenience caused by the incident.
Several other airlines have reported similar data exposure incidents involving Amadeus systems. Japan Airlines and Japan Transocean Air reported potential exposure affecting around 92,000 customers, while All Nippon Airways disclosed that information relating to approximately 37,800 customers may have been accessed.
