A VietJet Airlines flight from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Colombo in Sri Lanka made an emergency landing at Chennai Airport on Tuesday night after one of its engines failed during the journey. The aircraft was carrying 143 passengers and crew members.
The flight, operating as VJC1875, was being operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft registered as VN-A655. After the crew reported an engine problem, the aircraft was diverted to Chennai as a safety precaution.
Following the report from the aircraft crew, Chennai Airport activated its emergency response arrangements.
Airport authorities declared a full emergency at 9:55 pm. All necessary measures under the airport’s emergency plan were activated to prepare for the aircraft’s arrival.

The VietJet aircraft landed safely at Chennai Airport at around 10:27 pm. After landing, the aircraft was able to taxi under its own power to parking stand 44.
The safe landing meant that emergency teams did not have to carry out any rescue operation. The full emergency was later withdrawn by Air Traffic Control at around 10:35 pm.
There were no reports of injuries among the passengers or crew members on board.
Airport officials said the aircraft will undergo a detailed inspection to determine the exact cause of the engine failure.
