The airport was ranked 39th in 2025, meaning it has moved up 11 places in the latest ranking.
The ranking comes from aviation data provider OAG’s Megahubs 2026 report. The report measures the level of international connectivity offered by major airports around the world.
Delhi’s improved position comes as IndiGo continues to expand its domestic and international flight network. The airline’s growing number of flights helps connect passengers from different Indian cities with international services operating from Delhi.
One of the notable changes in the latest ranking is Delhi’s position compared with Dubai International Airport.
Dubai airport dropped from 15th place in 2025 to 31st place in 2026. The report noted that disruption in the West Asia region affected the rankings this year.
As a result, Delhi has moved ahead of Dubai in the latest global connectivity ranking. However, the ranking is based on a specific measure of connectivity and does not simply compare total passenger numbers or the overall size of airports.
The OAG Megahubs ranking uses a specific method to measure airport connectivity. It looks at the number of possible international connections that passengers can make between arriving and departing flights within a six-hour window.
The calculation also takes into account factors such as the minimum time needed to make a connection and the destinations served by each airport.
This means an airport can rank highly because it offers a large number of practical connecting options within the required time period.
Delhi Airport’s improvement has also been linked to the expansion of IndiGo’s network.
As IndiGo adds more domestic services, passengers from different parts of India can connect to international flights through Delhi. The airline’s growing international network also gives passengers more options for travelling to destinations outside India.
