IndiGo Receives DGCA Warning

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has issued a warning letter to IndiGo over possible violations of temporary airfare caps imposed in December 2025.

The action was taken after reports that some IndiGo ticket prices may have gone above the government-approved limits during a period of major flight disruptions. At that time, many passengers faced delays and cancellations, leading to higher travel demand.

To protect travellers from sharp fare increases, the Ministry of Civil Aviation introduced temporary caps on domestic airfares. These limits were meant to stop airlines from charging excessive prices during the crisis.

DGCA said IndiGo has already taken corrective steps, including refunds to passengers who may have paid more than the allowed fare. The airline has also been told to ensure strict compliance with fare rules in the future.

The warning is not a fine, but it is an official notice from the regulator. It serves as a reminder that airlines must follow government orders, especially during emergency situations.

DGCA oversees airline safety, operations and passenger rights in India. It can take action against carriers that fail to follow rules related to pricing, cancellations and customer service.

The development is important because IndiGo is the country’s largest airline. The warning shows that authorities are serious about fair pricing and protecting passengers during times of disruption.
