New Delhi witnessed heightened security on Friday after the Delhi High Court, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport and several government offices received bomb threats ahead of Independence Day. Police and security agencies immediately launched searches at the affected locations, with all the threats later declared hoaxes.
According to officials, the Delhi Cantonment SDM Office received an email at 11:18 am, followed by a threat to Delhi airport’s Terminal 3 at 11:32 am. Jamnagar House received a threat at 11:40 am, the Saket SDM Office at 11:42 am, while Jhandewalan was among the locations where a threat call was received through the Fire Control Room.
The Delhi High Court also received a threatening email containing the words “blast Delhi High Court @2:11 pm”. Following the alert, a bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were deployed at the court premises. Security was subsequently strengthened around the complex.
Delhi Police, bomb disposal teams and fire brigade personnel were sent to all five locations to conduct detailed searches and security checks. Authorities said that no suspicious objects or materials were found during the operations. Despite the threats being assessed as hoaxes, security agencies remained on high alert because of the Independence Day celebrations scheduled in the national capital.
The incidents come as Delhi undergoes enhanced security arrangements ahead of August 15 celebrations, particularly around major government buildings and the Red Fort. Agencies are continuing their investigation to determine the origin of the threatening communications and identify those responsible.
The repeated use of bomb threats against sensitive public locations has prompted authorities to maintain heightened vigilance while ensuring that normal activities at key facilities continue with appropriate security measures.
