The Noida International Airport, located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed Narendra Modi International Airport. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision on October 9, 2026. The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the proposal to rename the airport in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government expressed its gratitude to the Prime Minister for the development of this major airport in Uttar Pradesh.
The airport is expected to become one of the largest airports in Uttar Pradesh and an important aviation hub in India. It will improve air connectivity for people living in Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi-NCR, and nearby regions.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the Council of Ministers had approved the proposal to name the airport Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. The state government described the airport as an important gift to Uttar Pradesh.
The renaming decision highlights the importance of the airport in the state’s development. The airport is expected to support tourism, business, trade, and employment opportunities. It will also help improve transportation facilities for passengers travelling to and from the National Capital Region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28, 2026. The airport received its first flight landing on June 15, 2026, when an IndiGo aircraft arrived from Lucknow.
This was an important step towards starting airport operations and improving air connectivity in the region. The airport is designed to provide modern facilities for passengers and airlines.
The airport was developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Switzerland-based Zurich Airport International AG, in association with Noida International Airport Limited. The latter is the implementing agency working on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.
The airport has a 3,900-metre-long runway that can handle wide-body aircraft. It is also equipped with modern navigation systems to support safe and efficient aircraft operations.
Narendra Modi International Airport has been planned as a multimodal transport hub. It aims to connect air travel with road transport and other modes of transportation. This connectivity will make it easier for passengers to reach the airport from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region.
The airport’s runway has an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at both ends. This system helps aircraft approach and land safely, depending on weather conditions and wind direction.
The airport has also been designed with a strong focus on passenger safety, infrastructure security, and modern technology. These facilities are intended to support efficient airport operations and provide a better travel experience.
The renaming of Jewar Airport and its planned expansion represent an important development for Uttar Pradesh. The airport is expected to attract investment, create jobs, support industries, and improve regional connectivity.
It may also reduce pressure on existing airports serving the Delhi-NCR region by providing additional passenger-handling capacity. Businesses, tourists, and local residents could benefit from improved transportation links.
