Trichy Airport News: 596 Kg Banned Tobacco Seized, Three Arrested

Trichy city police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) have seized around 596 kg of banned tobacco products from different locations in Trichy. The police also arrested three people in connection with the alleged smuggling and sale of the banned products.
The seizures were made from four locations on Tuesday. During the operation, GRP personnel also recovered around 4 kg of ganja from Trichy Junction.
According to officials, GRP personnel found around 26 kg of banned tobacco products and 4 kg of ganja inside separate bags in a general coach of the Nizamuddin-Kanyakumari bi-weekly Superfast Express (Train No. 12642). The train had arrived at Trichy Junction on Tuesday night. The bags were reportedly found abandoned inside the coach.
The recovered ganja was later handed over to the NIB-CID for further action.
In another case, Airport police arrested A Natharsha from KK Nagar for allegedly selling banned tobacco products from his petty shop near Pasumai Nagar. Police recovered around 5.6 kg of banned tobacco, including products such as gutka and Coolip.
Airport police also conducted another operation near Rani Meyyammai Nagar. During the operation, police seized around 313 kg of banned tobacco products from two people identified as B Manikandan and S Thiyagarajan, who are from Ramanathapuram district. A scooter allegedly used to transport the banned tobacco was also seized.
In a separate action, Gandhi Market police acted on a tip-off and arrested Mahendiran Singh from Rajasthan. Police alleged that he was involved in transporting banned tobacco products. Around 251 kg of banned tobacco was seized near Mahalakshmi Nagar. An SUV allegedly used to transport the material was also confiscated.
The multiple seizures are part of police efforts to stop the illegal movement and sale of banned tobacco products in Trichy. The authorities are also investigating the source of the tobacco and its intended destinations.
The recovery of nearly 596 kg of banned tobacco in different operations highlights the continued action by Trichy police and railway authorities against the illegal trade of such products. Further investigation is underway in the cases.
