IndiGo Flight Evacuated at Bengaluru Airport After Smoke Alert

Indigo Flight News
A major scare was reported at Bengaluru airport after smoke was noticed inside an IndiGo aircraft preparing for takeoff. The incident led to an emergency evacuation of passengers and crew members, creating panic among travelers on board. Fortunately, all passengers and crew were brought out safely, though two passengers suffered minor injuries during the evacuation process.
The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E 6017, which was scheduled to operate from Bengaluru to Chennai on May 26, 2026. According to airline officials, the aircraft had already pushed back from the terminal and was taxiing toward the runway when smoke was detected inside the plane.
As soon as the smoke was noticed, the flight crew immediately informed airport authorities and followed emergency safety procedures. In the interest of passenger safety, the pilots decided to evacuate the aircraft without delay. Emergency evacuation slides were deployed, and passengers were instructed to leave the aircraft quickly.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), smoke was observed both in the cockpit and inside the cabin shortly after taxiing began. The crew reacted promptly and carried out the evacuation using all escape slides available on the aircraft.
During the emergency evacuation, two passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries. Officials said the injuries were not serious, and medical assistance was provided immediately. The remaining passengers and crew members were safely moved back to the terminal building.
IndiGo later released a statement confirming the incident. The airline said all passengers were safe and that airport teams were assisting travelers inside the terminal. The company also arranged an alternative aircraft to operate the Bengaluru-to-Chennai flight so that passengers could continue their journey with minimum delay.
The airline added that refreshments and assistance were provided to passengers while they waited for the replacement aircraft. Airport officials and emergency services responded quickly to the situation, helping maintain order during the evacuation process.
Following the incident, the aircraft involved was grounded for a detailed technical inspection. Aviation engineers and safety experts are now examining the plane to identify the exact cause of the smoke. The DGCA has also started monitoring the investigation closely.
Smoke inside an aircraft is treated as a serious safety concern in aviation because it can indicate electrical faults, overheating systems, or technical malfunctions. Aviation rules require immediate action whenever smoke is detected to protect passengers and crew from possible fire hazards.
Experts say the quick response by the pilots and cabin crew helped avoid a more dangerous situation. Emergency evacuation drills are an important part of airline training, and such situations test the preparedness of flight crews under pressure.
Passengers present during the incident described moments of panic as people rushed to exit the aircraft through the emergency slides. However, airport authorities managed the evacuation professionally and ensured that everyone was moved safely.
The incident once again highlights the importance of strict aviation safety standards and rapid emergency response systems at Indian airports. Authorities are expected to release further details once the technical investigation is completed.
