International airlines operating from Navi Mumbai International Airport will get significant landing charge benefits for the next few years under a revised tariff plan approved by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA).
AERA has approved a 100% waiver on aircraft landing charges for international flights during the first year of operation at the airport. The move is aimed at encouraging airlines to start new international routes and increase connectivity from Navi Mumbai.
Under the revised plan, international flights will receive different levels of discounts after the first year. In the second year, landing charges will be reduced by 50%. For long-haul international services, airlines will receive a 25% waiver in the third year.
The incentives are expected to encourage airlines to introduce new routes and maintain international services from the recently developed airport.
The tariff plan also provides discounts for airlines that increase the frequency of existing international services.
For additional short-haul international flights, airlines will receive a 50% discount on landing charges in the first year. For additional long-haul services, the discount will be 75% in the first year.
Routes of up to 5,000 kilometres are classified as short-haul, while routes covering more than 5,000 kilometres are considered long-haul.
These incentives are intended to make it more attractive for airlines to add flights and improve the number of international connections available from Navi Mumbai.
Navi Mumbai Airport will also offer strong incentives to international cargo operators. International freighter services will receive a 90% waiver on landing charges in the first year.
In the second year, international freighter operators will receive a 50% discount on landing charges. The incentives could help the airport attract more cargo services and strengthen its role as an aviation and logistics hub.
AERA approved the changes to the airport’s Variable Tariff Plan (VTP) through an order dated September 8.
One of the major changes involves the eligibility criteria for the landing charge waiver. Earlier, the incentive was linked to new international routes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Under the revised arrangement, the benefit will apply specifically to new routes originating from Navi Mumbai airport.
This means an international route can qualify for the landing charge waiver from Navi Mumbai even if the same route is already being operated from Mumbai’s existing airport.
AERA said the modification is designed to give the airport operator greater opportunities to develop international connectivity while linking the incentives to traffic growth and airport utilisation.
Navi Mumbai International Airport was inaugurated on October 8, 2025, and commercial operations began on December 25, 2025. International services started later, with an Air India Express flight to Abu Dhabi beginning operations on July 15.
The landing charge incentives are expected to support further growth in international services. By reducing the cost of operating new routes, the airport aims to attract more airlines and provide passengers with additional international travel options.
With Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports both being operated by the Adani group, the revised tariff structure could also play an important role in developing Navi Mumbai as a major international aviation hub.
