Mumbai Airport News: 2 Held From Bahrain With ₹2.09 Cr Gold Dust

Mumbai Airport News
Customs officials at Mumbai airport have caught two passengers arriving from Bahrain with 1.68 kg of gold dust. The gold, worth about ₹2.09 crore, was hidden in their undergarments.
The two passengers arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) stopped them after they landed. The seizure was reported by officials on Wednesday.
During the search, officials found gold dust in wax form hidden in the passengers’ undergarments. The total weight was 1.68 kg, and its value was estimated at around ₹2.09 crore.
Smugglers often mix gold dust with wax or other materials to make it look like paste. This makes it easier to hide on the body and harder to detect during normal checks.
The report did not say what action was taken against the two passengers. In such cases, Customs officers usually seize the gold, record statements and may arrest the people involved. Investigators also try to find out who sent the gold, who was supposed to receive it in India and whether a larger smuggling network is behind it.
Gold is expensive in India, and import duty is charged on it. Some people try to avoid paying this duty by bringing gold in secretly. Airports such as Mumbai are common targets for such attempts, so Customs officers keep a close watch on passengers arriving from certain routes.
Smuggling gold is a serious offence. It can lead to arrest, heavy penalties and a jail term. The gold can also be confiscated.
