Kolkata Airport News: Akasa Air Flight Grounded After Tail Strike

Kolkata Airport News
An Akasa Air flight from Ahmedabad to Kolkata landed safely on Saturday, but the aircraft was grounded afterwards when a tail strike was found during an inspection. All passengers got off the plane safely, and an investigation has started.
The flight, QP 1925, was operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8. It landed at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at around 7.40 am, according to a source.
An Akasa Air spokesperson said the flight carried out a go-around during its landing. A go-around means the pilots abort the landing and fly up again before making another attempt to land. The aircraft then landed safely, and all passengers disembarked safely.
After the flight, a post-flight inspection showed that the tail section of the aircraft had touched the ground. This is known as a tail strike. The airline informed the relevant authorities as required by safety rules and said the incident was under investigation.
A tail strike happens when the rear part of an aircraft’s body touches the runway during landing or take-off. It can occur if the nose of the plane is raised too high. Such incidents are taken seriously, and the aircraft must go through technical checks to see if there is any damage to its structure before it can fly again.
The aircraft remained parked at Kolkata airport for a detailed technical inspection. Akasa Air did not say how much damage there was or when the aircraft would return to service. The cause of the tail strike has also not been shared. It is not yet clear whether the go-around was connected to the tail strike.
