Cyclone Arnab forced IndiGo to cancel five flights to and from Kolkata on Wednesday amid severe weather conditions. Several long-distance trains were also cancelled, with further disruption possible on Thursday.

According to a Kolkata airport official, three arriving flights and two departing flights were cancelled.

The cancelled arriving flights were 6E7434 from Bhubaneswar, scheduled to arrive at 5:10 pm; 6E0617 from Visakhapatnam, scheduled for 7:30 pm; and 6E7466 from Ranchi, scheduled for 8:30 pm.

The departing flights were 6E0616 to Visakhapatnam, scheduled for 3:45 pm, and 6E7465 to Ranchi, scheduled for 5:40 pm.

Further disruption is possible on Thursday, particularly on flights connecting Kolkata with Raipur and Bilaspur, depending on the cyclone’s movement.

Bad weather over the Bay of Bengal has also affected flight operations in recent days. Flights between Kolkata and Port Blair have been taking longer routes to avoid the affected area.

Air traffic controllers in Kolkata have rerouted several aircraft operating between Southeast Asia and the Gulf region. Some domestic flights heading south have also been diverted through an area between Nagpur and Raipur, increasing flight times.

Other airports affected by the weather include Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Chennai. IndiGo had previously cancelled 12 flights between Chennai and cities in Andhra Pradesh amid the weather disruption.

The cyclone has also affected railway operations, with several long-distance trains cancelled. Further cancellations and delays remain possible as weather conditions develop.
