Empower Showcases Airport Cooling Infrastructure at Airport Show 2026

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower) showcased its role in supporting Dubai International Airport (DXB) with district cooling services during Airport Show 2026, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 12 to 14.

Empower operates five district cooling plants at DXB, with a combined capacity of 110,000 refrigeration tons (RT). The company serves as the airport’s exclusive district cooling provider, supplying cooling services across its facilities and complexes.

The company highlighted its experience in managing large-scale cooling infrastructure for critical facilities that require reliable, continuous operations. As passenger traffic grows and airports expand their infrastructure, efficient energy management has become an important consideration for aviation operators.

Empower’s involvement at DXB follows its acquisition of the airport’s district cooling systems, with the transaction completed in 2023. The agreement was part of a deal signed in 2021, valued at AED 1.1 billion, covering the rights associated with the airport’s cooling infrastructure.

District cooling systems serve multiple buildings through centralised plants, offering an alternative to individual air-conditioning units. Depending on operating conditions, the approach can help reduce electricity consumption and support efforts to lower the environmental impact of large facilities.

Airport Show 2026 brought together airport operators, aviation suppliers and technology providers to discuss developments in airport infrastructure, digital transformation, security and sustainability.

Empower’s participation highlighted the importance of specialist utility providers in supporting the operational needs of major aviation hubs. In Dubai, where high temperatures create substantial cooling demand throughout much of the year, dependable infrastructure is essential to maintaining comfortable terminal environments and supporting airport operations.

The company’s work at DXB demonstrates how district cooling can be integrated into complex transport infrastructure as airports pursue greater operational efficiency and long-term sustainability goals.
