Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi have arrested two Indian passengers after recovering gold jewellery worth around Rs 63.26 lakh. The passengers had arrived from Dubai and were intercepted during a customs check.

According to officials, the two passengers landed at Terminal 3 of Delhi airport on September 28. During a detailed examination of their baggage and personal searches, customs officials recovered two gold chains and two kadas.

The recovered gold jewellery had a combined weight of 476 grams and was valued at approximately Rs 63.26 lakh. The seizure was made after officials conducted a detailed inspection of the passengers and their belongings.

The passengers were questioned by customs officials following the recovery. According to an official statement, they admitted that the gold had been brought from Dubai to Delhi with the intention of avoiding payment of customs duty.

The customs department has taken the recovered jewellery into custody for further investigation. The two passengers were also arrested in connection with the case.

Authorities are now examining the circumstances surrounding the import of the gold and the passengers’ travel details. The investigation is expected to establish whether the passengers were acting on their own or were carrying the jewellery for someone else.

Gold smuggling and attempts to avoid customs duty are regularly monitored at international airports. Customs officials conduct baggage checks and personal searches based on available information and other security procedures to detect undeclared goods.

The latest seizure at Delhi airport highlights the checks carried out on passengers arriving from international destinations. Passengers are required to follow customs rules and declare goods when necessary.

The case also shows the importance of detailed baggage examination at international terminals. Customs officials continue to monitor passengers and luggage to identify attempts to bring undeclared or restricted items into the country.

Further details about the investigation are expected as authorities continue questioning the two passengers and examine the seized gold. The final legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing customs investigation.
