Delhi Airport News: Air India Flight Faces Engine Fire Scare After Landing, Passengers Safe

Delhi Airport News
An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi triggered a major emergency response at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after one of its engines reportedly caught fire shortly after landing on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, Air India flight AI2802 landed safely at the airport before sparks and flames were noticed from one of the aircraft’s engines. Following the incident, airport authorities immediately declared a full emergency and rushed fire and rescue teams to the runway area.
All passengers and crew members onboard were reported safe, and no injuries were recorded. The aircraft was later moved to a designated area for technical inspection after emergency teams brought the situation under control.
Air India confirmed the incident in a statement and said the aircraft landed safely in Delhi. The airline added that it is coordinating with airport officials and aviation authorities to determine the exact cause of the engine fire indication.
Sources said the aircraft involved was an Airbus A320neo operating the Bengaluru–Delhi route. Emergency procedures at the airport were activated as a precautionary measure to avoid any risk to passengers or airport operations.
Visuals from the airport showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft soon after landing. Fire personnel carried out inspections while technical teams examined the affected engine. Flight operations at the airport were not significantly impacted, according to initial reports.
The incident comes amid increased focus on aviation safety in India following several recent technical glitches reported by airlines. On the same day, another Air India aircraft reportedly suffered a tailstrike while landing at Bengaluru airport, adding to concerns over operational safety and aircraft maintenance.
Aviation experts say modern commercial aircraft are equipped with advanced safety systems that allow pilots to safely handle engine-related emergencies. In this case, the quick response by the flight crew and airport emergency services helped prevent the situation from escalating.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to seek a detailed report from the airline regarding the incident. Technical investigations are likely to focus on the source of the fire indication and whether there was any mechanical fault in the engine system.
Air India has not yet announced whether the aircraft will remain grounded pending inspection. Passengers were safely deboarded after the situation was brought under control.
The incident once again highlights the importance of rapid emergency response systems at major airports and the growing attention on aviation safety as airlines continue to operate high-frequency domestic services across India.
