Nepal Helicopter Crash News

An Indian tourist was killed and another passenger of Indian origin was injured when two helicopters collided while landing in Nepal’s Everest region on Tuesday morning. Both pilots also suffered minor injuries.

The accident took place on November 3, 2026, at Pheriche in Nepal’s Solukhumbu district. Pheriche is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers heading towards Mount Everest. A routine helicopter landing at the helipad turned into a tragedy when the two aircraft collided.

Nepal Police said one person was killed and one injured in the collision at Pheriche heliport. A Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal official told local media that the rotor blades of the two helicopters hit each other while they were landing at the helipad.

The person who died has been identified as 47-year-old Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu, a resident of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The injured passenger is 49-year-old Shailesh Krishna Patel, a New Zealand citizen of Indian origin. Both pilots suffered minor injuries.

The Everest region is a very difficult place to fly. Helipads sit at high altitude, where the air is thin and helicopters have less power. Weather can change quickly, and valleys are narrow. At the same time, many helicopters carry trekkers, climbers and tourists in and out of the area, especially during the busy autumn season. This can make landing areas crowded, which means pilots and ground staff must coordinate very carefully.
