Mumbai Airport News: System Outage Delays 327 Flights

Mumbai Airport News
Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were affected on Tuesday evening after a system outage that lasted over an hour. Airport staff had to switch to manual check-in to keep passengers moving.
According to sources, the outage hit the airport’s systems on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Because the digital systems were not working properly, staff began checking in passengers by hand. This is usually slower than the normal process, so passengers may have faced longer queues and waiting times.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), the private company that runs the airport, issued a statement about the problem. It said the airport had “experienced a temporary network disruption” on Tuesday evening. Teams then used manual processing to reduce inconvenience to passengers and keep essential airport work running.
MIAL also said that, so far, there had been no impact on airport and flight operations because of the disruption. However, it did not say exactly how long the problem lasted or what caused it.
Data from the flight-tracking website Flightradar24 showed a different picture. According to the site, flights at Mumbai airport had an average departure delay of 50 minutes. Until about 9:30 pm, a total of 327 flights were delayed, and 13 per cent of flights were cancelled.
However, it is not clear how many of these delays and cancellations were caused by the system outage. Flight delays can also happen because of other reasons, such as weather, air traffic or aircraft problems. The report itself notes that this link is unclear.
Mumbai is one of the busiest airports in India, so even a short technical problem can quickly affect many flights and thousands of passengers. When check-in systems go down, delays can spread from one flight to others, leading to a chain reaction across the day.
Travellers flying from Mumbai should:
- Check their flight status with the airline before leaving home
- Reach the airport a little earlier than usual
- Keep a printed or digital copy of the ticket and ID ready
- Contact the airline for help if their flight is delayed or cancelled
