IndiGo News: Airline Hikes Fuel Surcharge on Domestic and International Flights

IndiGo News
Air travel is set to become more expensive as IndiGo has announced an increase in its fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights. The airline said the decision has been taken due to the continued rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs.
The revised fuel charges will apply to all new bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026. This means passengers booking IndiGo flights from October 6 will have to pay the higher surcharge as part of their ticket cost.
IndiGo said the increase in ATF prices has made it necessary to revise the fuel charges across its domestic and international routes. The airline has adjusted the surcharge based on the impact of higher fuel costs on flight operations.
The latest increase is the second time IndiGo has raised its fuel surcharge since April. The surcharge was first introduced in March as a way to manage the impact of higher fuel prices on airline operations.
The increase in the fuel surcharge will depend on the distance of the domestic flight. According to the airline, passengers will have to pay an additional Rs 100 to Rs 350 on domestic routes.
The exact amount will therefore vary from one route to another. Longer domestic flights are expected to have a higher surcharge compared with shorter routes.
The revised charges will only apply to new bookings made after the effective time. Passengers who have already booked their tickets before the new surcharge comes into effect will not be making a new booking under the revised structure.
Fuel is one of the major costs involved in running an airline. When ATF prices rise, airlines can face higher operating expenses. IndiGo has cited the continuous increase in ATF costs as the main reason behind its latest decision.
The higher fuel surcharge means passengers planning to travel by IndiGo should consider the additional cost while booking their flights. The airline operates a large network of domestic and international routes, so the revised charge could affect a significant number of new bookings.
With the new fuel surcharge coming into effect from October 6, travellers may see higher ticket costs on IndiGo flights depending on their route and booking date.
