Customs officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have arrested two Indian passengers after allegedly recovering nearly 4 kg of suspected ganja, valued at around Rs 1.38 crore. The passengers had arrived in Delhi from Bangkok.
According to officials, the two passengers were travelling together and arrived at Terminal 3 on September 29. They were intercepted by Customs officers following passenger profiling at the airport.
The passengers were directed to the green channel for a detailed examination of their baggage. During the inspection, Customs officials checked their trolley bags and allegedly found four polythene pouches containing a substance suspected to be ganja, also known as marijuana.
The recovered substance had a total weight of 3,964 grams, or nearly 4 kg. Customs officials estimated its value at approximately Rs 1.38 crore.
Following the recovery, the suspected contraband was seized under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both passengers were also arrested under the Act.
The seizure is part of the ongoing checks carried out by Customs officials at Delhi airport to detect suspected smuggling of prohibited goods and narcotic substances. Passenger profiling and baggage examination are among the methods used by authorities to identify potentially suspicious cases involving international travellers.
The two passengers had travelled from Bangkok to Delhi and were intercepted after arriving at Terminal 3. Officials are now expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged transportation of the suspected ganja.
The case has been registered under the applicable provisions of the NDPS Act. The contraband was seized and the passengers were taken into custody following the recovery.
The incident highlights the checks conducted on passengers arriving on international flights at Delhi airport. Authorities continue to examine baggage and passengers as part of efforts to prevent the illegal movement of narcotic substances through the airport.
