Mumbai Airport News

Mumbai airport is set to reduce international flight operations from October 25, 2026, as preparations begin for the redevelopment of Terminal 1. According to sources, airlines operating international services from Mumbai will have to temporarily reduce a total of 265 weekly overseas flights.

Mumbai International Airport has two main terminals. Terminal 1 mainly handles domestic flights, while international services operate from Terminal 2 (T2). Since Terminal 1 is scheduled to close for redevelopment, the airport operator plans to use some of the international departure slots at T2 to accommodate domestic flights that will shift from T1.

The airport currently has 46 airlines operating around 770 international flights every week from T2. From October 25, which also marks the beginning of the winter flight schedule, airlines have been asked to temporarily discontinue 265 weekly international services.

The changes will affect several major airlines. IndiGo is expected to reduce 74 international flights every week from Mumbai. The airline currently operates around 224 weekly international flights from the airport. Air India will reduce 33 weekly overseas services from its current schedule of around 100 international flights per week.

Other Indian airlines will also be affected. Akasa Air is expected to cut 11 weekly international flights, while Air India Express will reduce seven services and SpiceJet will cut five international flights.

Several foreign airlines will also see changes to their schedules. Etihad Airways and Emirates are each expected to reduce 10 weekly flights from Mumbai. Both airlines currently operate around 28 weekly services from the airport.

The temporary reduction is linked to the planned closure and redevelopment of Terminal 1. The redevelopment is scheduled to begin in January 2027. MIAL, which operates Mumbai airport and is part of Adani Airport Holdings, plans to use the available airport capacity to support domestic operations during the transition.

The changes may affect passengers travelling on international routes from Mumbai. Travellers should check their airline schedules before booking or travelling, as flight frequencies and timings may change during the transition period.
