Customs officials at Chennai International Airport have seized drone components and a large quantity of prohibited e-cigarettes from a passenger arriving from Dubai. The total international value of the seized items has been estimated at around Rs 35 lakh.

According to officials, the passenger, a Chennai resident aged around 35, arrived at the airport from Dubai. During a check of his baggage, customs officials found a number of drone components inside his suitcase. The parts were reportedly enough to assemble around 10 drones.

Officials also recovered a large quantity of e-cigarettes from the passenger’s luggage. E-cigarettes and other electronic cigarettes are prohibited for import into India under the existing rules. The recovery of both drone parts and e-cigarettes has led customs authorities to conduct a detailed investigation.

The passenger was intercepted after customs officials detected the items in his suitcase. The drone components and e-cigarettes were taken into custody for further examination. Officials are now checking the exact nature and specifications of the drone parts.

The combined international value of the seized drone components and prohibited e-cigarettes is estimated at approximately Rs 35 lakh. The seizure has raised questions about the purpose of bringing the items into the country and whether they were intended for other people.

Customs officials are investigating who was supposed to receive the consignment and why the passenger was carrying such a large quantity of these items. Authorities are also examining whether the passenger had brought similar goods into India previously.

The investigation is currently underway, and officials are expected to gather more information about the source and intended destination of the seized items. The passenger’s statements and the details of the recovered goods will be examined as part of the inquiry.

The seizure highlights the checks carried out by customs authorities at Chennai International Airport to prevent the illegal import of restricted and prohibited goods. Passengers arriving from international destinations are required to follow Indian customs rules and declare goods wherever required.
