Customs Seize 1 Kg Gold from Passenger at Shamshabad Airport

Hyderabad Airport News

Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad, Hyderabad, seized around 1 kg of gold from a passenger during a checking operation. The gold was allegedly brought into the country from the Gulf and was later transported to Hyderabad by air.

According to the preliminary information, a man travelling from the Gulf had first arrived at Thiruvananthapuram Airport carrying the gold. He had allegedly moulded the gold into a lump and concealed it inside a polythene cover in an attempt to avoid detection.

After arriving in Kerala, the passenger reportedly travelled to Hyderabad on an IndiGo flight. The flight, identified as 6E-5368, landed at Shamshabad Airport.

According to the report, the passenger allegedly believed that customs officials would not check passengers travelling on domestic flights. He reportedly handed over the polythene cover containing the gold to a person identified as Sadiq before leaving the airport.

However, customs officials were monitoring the movement of passengers and conducted a check when Sadiq was leaving the airport.

During the inspection, officials checked Sadiq’s hand baggage. They reportedly found the concealed gold inside the bag and immediately seized it.

The recovered gold weighed around 1 kg, making it a significant seizure. Customs officials are now expected to investigate the source of the gold and the people involved in transporting it.

The incident highlights how customs agencies continue to conduct checks at airports to prevent the illegal movement of gold and other valuable items. Passengers travelling through airports are required to follow customs rules and declare goods when necessary.

The authorities are likely to examine the circumstances under which the gold was brought from the Gulf and transferred to another person at the airport. Officials may also investigate the roles of the passenger who allegedly carried the gold and Sadiq, who was reportedly found carrying it.

The seizure also shows that passengers travelling on domestic routes after arriving from international destinations can still come under scrutiny as part of airport security and customs operations.

Further details about the value of the seized gold, the identities of the people involved and possible legal action are expected as the investigation progresses.

The Shamshabad airport seizure is another example of customs officials’ efforts to detect and stop gold smuggling through India’s airports. Authorities continue to carry out inspections and intelligence-based checks to prevent the illegal transportation of precious metals.
