A Singapore court has sentenced an Indian national to six months in prison after he was found guilty of molesting and harassing a cabin crew member during a Singapore Airlines flight. The incident, which occurred on a flight traveling from Bangkok to Singapore earlier this year, has drawn attention to the strict stance Singapore takes against misconduct on board aircraft.
According to court proceedings, the accused, identified as 35-year-old Akash Tiwari, was traveling with a group of friends when the incident took place. Reports indicate that the group displayed inappropriate behavior toward a female flight attendant during the journey. The situation escalated when Tiwari allegedly made unwanted physical contact with the crew member while she was performing her duties.
The flight attendant immediately reported the matter to her supervisors. In response, airline staff reassigned her duties to minimize further interaction with the passenger. However, prosecutors stated that the inappropriate conduct continued later during the flight, causing significant distress to the crew member.
Court documents revealed that despite being warned about his behavior, Tiwari allegedly continued to approach the crew member. As the aircraft prepared for landing, he reportedly followed her into the galley area and stood uncomfortably close to her. The victim repeatedly asked him to keep his distance, but prosecutors said he ignored those requests, leaving her feeling threatened and intimidated.
Upon arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport, the matter was reported to airport authorities and local police. An investigation was launched, leading to legal proceedings against the passenger. Tiwari eventually pleaded guilty to charges related to molestation and harassment. The court sentenced him to six months in jail and also ordered him to compensate the victim for the distress caused by his actions.
The case serves as a reminder that inappropriate behavior toward airline staff is treated as a serious offense. Aviation authorities and airlines worldwide continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for both passengers and crew members.
