Navi Mumbai Airport News: International Flights to Begin from July 15, Boosting Global Connectivity

International Flights to Start from Navi Mumbai Airport from July 15
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to begin international operations from July 15, marking an important milestone for India’s aviation sector. The airport, owned by the Adani Group, will launch both international passenger and cargo services, further strengthening air connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The airport started domestic flight operations in December last year and has already become an important transportation hub. With the launch of international services, Navi Mumbai Airport is expected to play a major role in handling growing passenger and cargo traffic that currently relies heavily on Mumbai’s main airport.
According to Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL) Chief Executive Officer BVJK Sharma, international freighter operations will begin on July 15. Initially, the airport expects nearly 18 weekly cargo flights. Along with cargo operations, international passenger services are also likely to start on the same day.
Two Indian airlines have already confirmed their participation in the new international operations. Air India Express and IndiGo are expected to operate international flights from the airport. Officials said airline filings have recently been submitted, and more details about routes and frequencies are expected in the coming weeks.
Before starting international services, several approvals and preparations are required. Senior officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently reviewed the airport’s readiness for international operations. Customs notifications have already been issued, and final procedures involving cargo and courier operations are being completed.
Airport authorities expect passenger traffic to increase significantly once international flights begin. At present, the airport handles around 20,000 passengers daily and manages approximately 150 arrivals and departures each day. By the end of the year, airport officials project daily passenger traffic to rise to around 50,000 passengers and air traffic movements to increase to nearly 380 per day.
The airport is also attracting interest from international airlines. According to Sharma, several foreign airlines and diplomatic representatives have approached the airport operator regarding potential operations. Although no additional international carriers have been officially announced, discussions are reportedly ongoing.
Initially, the airport expects to focus mainly on short-haul international destinations. These are routes with flight durations of approximately four to six hours and may include destinations in the Middle East, South Asia, and nearby international markets.
The airport operator has also begun planning its next phase of expansion. Originally, a terminal with a capacity of 30 million passengers was planned. However, officials are now redesigning the project to build an even larger terminal capable of handling around 50 million passengers.
The long-term vision for the airport includes integrating international operations into a single large terminal. Airport authorities estimate that by 2038, the new facility could handle between 25 million and 30 million international passengers annually.
Cargo operations are also expected to become a major strength of Navi Mumbai Airport. Officials believe the airport will develop into an important logistics hub operating on a hub-and-spoke model, where domestic and international cargo services support each other. Around 70 per cent of the airport’s cargo volumes are expected to come from belly cargo carried in passenger aircraft.
Adding to its growing reputation, Navi Mumbai International Airport was recently named among the world’s most beautiful airports in the Prix Versailles World’s Most Beautiful Airports 2026 list, alongside airports in China, Germany, Cambodia, and the United States.
The launch of international operations from July 15 marks a major step in transforming Navi Mumbai Airport into a world-class aviation hub and providing greater travel and cargo connectivity for India and the region.
