Lufthansa Technik Canada (LTCA) has completed its first live LEAP-1B engine event at its interim facility in Calgary, marking the site’s transition into active operations and confirming its readiness to support engine maintenance activity in North America.
The development adds Calgary to Lufthansa Technik’s engine services network, with the Canadian operation dedicated to servicing LEAP-1B engines.
Lufthansa Technik says the facility is intended to strengthen support for operators in North America as the company expands its regional capabilities for next-generation engine maintenance.
The interim facility is now fully operational with eight bays, allowing Lufthansa Technik Canada to begin scalable maintenance activity while preparations continue for a larger permanent site at Calgary International Airport.
Two training engines are currently in the shop, supporting workforce build-up and readiness as operations ramp up.
The successful completion of the first engine event marks a key operational milestone for the Calgary facility, demonstrating its readiness to carry out LEAP-1B engine work as Lufthansa Technik expands its engine services footprint in North America.
Max Schramm, President and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Canada, said the milestone strengthens the company’s LEAP-1B capabilities in North America and brings support closer to customers. Derrick Siebert, Vice President Engine Services at Lufthansa Technik, said bringing the Calgary facility into live operation is another step in strengthening the group’s global network for LEAP engine services across the Americas.

Since announcing Calgary as its Canadian headquarters in February 2025, Lufthansa Technik Canada has grown to more than 80 employees. In December 2025, the company passed its Transport Canada Civil Aviation audit, clearing the way for work to begin at the interim facility.
Lufthansa Technik says the long-term plan is to develop a 150,000-square-foot engine maintenance facility in cooperation with Calgary Airports, including what it describes as Canada’s first test cell for latest-generation aircraft engines. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

As part of Lufthansa Technik’s Mobile Engine Services network, the Calgary operation is expected to support LEAP-1B services closer to customers in North America, with the company pointing to reduced turnaround times, greater operational agility and improved supply chain resilience as key benefits.
The Canadian site also fits into Lufthansa Technik’s wider agreement with WestJet, under which the MRO provider is supporting the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet and plans to introduce quick-turn shop visits in Calgary, while full overhauls continue elsewhere in its network.
