Nuremberg Airport Suspends Flights After Pilots Spot Suspected Drones in Germany

Nuremberg Airport News
Nuremberg Airport in Germany temporarily suspended flight operations on Tuesday, October 13, after three pilots reported seeing a suspected drone near the airfield. Police launched a security search, while airport authorities halted takeoffs and landings as a precaution.
The news came between 2 am and 4 am local time during aircraft takeoff and landing operations. German border police, airport management and air traffic control worked together to investigate the sightings.
Police deployed a helicopter to search the airport area, but officers could not confirm the presence of a drone. Police spokesperson Michael Petzold said further investigations were underway to establish what the pilots had seen.
The airport later reported a separate aviation emergency involving Corendon Airlines flight XR456, which was travelling from Corfu, Greece, to Nuremberg. The aircraft landed safely, according to police, and authorities said initial checks found no danger at the scene.
The flight disruption came amid growing concern over suspected drone activity near German airports and other critical infrastructure. In August, authorities discovered a drone carrying explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport, near aircraft used for cargo operations involving Ukraine. German officials blamed Russia for the incident, while Moscow denied the allegations.
