Delhi Airport News: Woman Arrested with Rs 5.62 Crore Cannabis from Bangkok

Delhi Airport News
Customs officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have arrested an Indian woman who was arriving from Bangkok. They allegedly found 16 kg of “hydroponic” cannabis in her baggage. The seized drugs are worth around Rs 5.62 crore, officials said on Monday.
The woman was stopped at Terminal 3 on October 10. According to an official statement, she was intercepted based on profiling. Profiling means officers pick out passengers for checks by looking at travel patterns and other signs that may point to smuggling.
During the examination of her trolley bag, officials recovered six polythene pouches. These contained suspected hydroponic cannabis weighing 16,041 grams (net). Hydroponic cannabis is a type of cannabis grown in water instead of soil. It is often sold at a very high price in the illegal market, which explains the large value of this seizure.
The suspected contraband was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The woman was arrested under the relevant sections of the law, the statement said. The NDPS Act is the main law in India that deals with the possession, sale, transport and use of illegal drugs.
Airports are common points for drug smuggling, especially on international routes. Customs teams often check passengers arriving from certain countries and use profiling to decide who should be searched. This case shows how such checks can lead to big seizures.
The woman has been arrested, and the legal process will now move forward under the NDPS Act. The statement did not share further details about her identity, her travel plans or who may have been behind the consignment. More information may come out as the investigation continues.
