Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, may experience a slower growth in passenger and flight operations because of the current geopolitical situation, according to its operator Zurich Airport International AG.
The airport started commercial operations on June 15, 2026, and is gradually building its flight network. However, the operator has said that the airport’s near-term performance could remain uncertain because of the challenging global environment.
Noida International Airport handled 204 flights and around 25,000 passengers in June after beginning operations.
The airport saw a significant increase in activity in July. During the month, it handled around 1,044 flights and 77,000 passengers.
The rise shows that passenger and airline activity is gradually increasing at the new airport. However, Zurich Airport expects the overall ramp-up to be slower than initially anticipated.
In its investor presentation for the first half of 2026, Zurich Airport International said the airport’s near-term performance remains subject to higher uncertainty because of the geopolitical environment.
Despite the short-term challenges, the airport operator remains positive about the long-term potential of Noida International Airport.
Zurich Airport said that the airport’s route network will continue to expand. International flight services are also expected to be added in the future.
The development of international routes could help Noida Airport become an important aviation hub for the National Capital Region. The airport is located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, and is expected to provide another major gateway for passengers and businesses in the region.
The operator has also expressed strong confidence in the long-term growth potential of the Indian aviation market.
Noida International Airport has an initial passenger handling capacity of around 12 million passengers per year.
The investment planned for the first phase of the airport is estimated at approximately CHF 750 million. The large investment reflects the long-term plans for developing the airport and expanding its facilities.
However, the airport is currently in the early stages of operations, meaning it will take time to build a larger passenger base and attract more airlines and routes.
The airport recorded revenue of around CHF 2.5 million during the first half of 2026. At the same time, its operating expenses were approximately CHF 4.9 million.
As a result, the airport recorded a loss of around CHF 2.4 million before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) during the period.
Such financial results can be expected during the early development stage of a major airport, when infrastructure and operating costs are high while flight and passenger numbers are still growing.Although Zurich Airport expects a slower ramp-up in the near term, it remains confident about the future of Noida International Airport and India’s aviation sector.
The airport’s expanding route network, planned international services and large initial capacity could support its growth over the coming years.
