Delhi Government Launches Ride-Sharing Service

In a major step towards promoting eco-friendly urban transport, the Delhi government has launched a new ride-sharing service at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and encourage shared mobility options for airport travellers.

The newly introduced service is designed to allow passengers arriving at the airport to share rides with others travelling in the same direction. Officials believe the move will help reduce the number of single-passenger vehicles on Delhi’s roads while also making airport transportation more affordable and efficient.

The Delhi government said the project aligns with its larger vision of sustainable and smart mobility in the national capital. With thousands of passengers travelling to and from IGI Airport daily, authorities expect the service to significantly cut fuel consumption and traffic pressure around airport zones.

According to officials, designated ride-sharing pickup zones have been created at the airport to streamline operations and improve passenger convenience. The service is expected to integrate technology-driven booking systems, making it easier for travellers to find and share rides in real time.

Transport and environment experts have welcomed the initiative, stating that shared mobility can play a crucial role in reducing urban pollution levels. Delhi has been actively exploring cleaner transportation solutions in recent years, including electric buses, EV adoption incentives, and improved public transport infrastructure.

The airport ride-sharing initiative is also expected to benefit commuters financially, as shared rides can lower travel costs compared to private cab bookings. Authorities believe that if adopted widely, the model could become a benchmark for sustainable airport transportation across other Indian cities.

Officials further indicated that public awareness campaigns will be launched to encourage passengers to opt for shared mobility instead of individual rides. The government hopes the initiative will contribute to a cleaner, less congested, and more environmentally responsible transportation ecosystem in Delhi.
