Chennai Airport News: Fake Jobs Fraud, Ex-AAI Official Arrested

Chennai Airport News
A 52-year-old former Airports Authority of India (AAI) official has been arrested in Chennai for allegedly cheating 12 people of Rs 23 lakh. She is accused of promising them jobs at the Chennai airport and its cargo terminal. The accused, K Kumari Kala of Kancheepuram, was remanded on 14 October.
According to Airport police, Kala worked as a senior superintendent at AAI. She took voluntary retirement in 2025. After retiring, she ran cargo transport vehicles on a contract basis.
Police said Kala claimed she could get permanent jobs at the airport and cargo offices for educated young people. This allegedly went on from 2021 to 2025. She collected between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh from each person. Most of the victims were children of drivers who operated cargo vehicles.
In return, she gave them fake job application forms. This made the offer look real, and the families trusted her because of her earlier position at AAI.
The applicants waited for six months, but none of them received a job. When they asked Kala about it, she allegedly said that their applications had been sent to the AAI headquarters in Delhi.
Later, the victims learnt the truth. Kala had already retired and had no power to recruit staff. One of the drivers then filed a complaint with the police, and this led to her arrest.
This case shows why people should be careful about job offers that ask for money. Government and airport jobs are usually filled through official recruitment processes, such as public notices, exams and interviews. Job seekers should keep these points in mind:
- Never pay money to anyone who promises a job.
- Check job openings on the official website of the organisation.
- Be careful if someone says they can use their contacts to get you a “permanent job.”
- Do not trust application forms that did not come through official channels.
The accused was remanded on 14 October. The report does not say whether more victims may come forward or whether anyone else was involved. Further details may become known as the police investigation continues.
