An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi made an emergency landing at Jaipur Airport on Tuesday. The flight, AI-2030, was diverted after a suspected hijack alert was triggered by a brief “Squawk-7500” signal. The aircraft landed safely in Jaipur.

According to reports, the aircraft triggered the alert for only a few seconds. The signal was received by Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC), which immediately informed the security agencies. Following the alert, the flight was diverted to Jaipur.

Squawk-7500 is an internationally recognised transponder code in aviation. A transponder is a device on an aircraft that sends signals to air traffic controllers. Pilots use the code 7500 to show that the aircraft is being hijacked or taken over unlawfully. Because the code points to a serious threat, controllers and security agencies treat it with the highest priority, even if it appears for just a few seconds.

After landing, the aircraft was moved to the airport’s isolation bay at around 9.45 am. This was done so that security checks could be carried out. An isolation bay is a special parking area, away from other aircraft and terminal buildings. It is used during security-related emergencies so that agencies can inspect the aircraft without putting other flights and passengers at risk.

The reports do not say whether there was any real threat onboard. It is also not clear whether the signal was sent by mistake or because of a technical issue. These details may become known once the security agencies finish their checks.

Passengers on the flight faced an unexpected stop in Jaipur and a delay in reaching Delhi. Airlines and security agencies usually prefer to act quickly in such cases, as safety is the first priority. Travellers should keep checking with the airline for updates on their onward journey.
