Trichy Airport News: Air Courier Operations Likely to Begin by November 2026

Trichy Airport News
Trichy International Airport is likely to begin air courier operations by November 2026, following a decision by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Customs Department to finalise the arrangements for the service. The move is expected to make sending goods and documents to other countries easier and more convenient for people and businesses in the region.
The decision was taken during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Trichy airport on Wednesday, October 7. The meeting was chaired by Trichy Member of Parliament Durai Vaiko and K Selvakumar, CEO of AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), a wholly owned subsidiary of AAI.
During the meeting, officials agreed to use the existing export cargo terminal and available staff to begin the operations. The air courier service has faced delays for several years, even though the Centre notified Trichy airport for this facility in 2013. A shortage of manpower at the AAI and Customs Department was identified as one of the main reasons for the delay.
The latest decision followed instructions from Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu after Durai Vaiko raised the issue. The stakeholders are now working to finalise the arrangements required to launch the service within the proposed timeline.
At present, many people and traders in the Trichy region send goods, documents and other consignments to overseas destinations through Bengaluru and Cochin airports. This makes the process more expensive and time-consuming and also results in a loss of potential revenue for Trichy airport.
According to the information shared at the meeting, four to five courier operators regularly send around 15 tonnes of air courier consignments each to different countries through Cochin airport.
Trichy airport already has infrastructure that can support air courier operations, but the facilities have not been fully utilised for this purpose. Starting the service could help local traders and residents access international courier services more easily. It may also improve the use of existing airport facilities and create an additional source of revenue for the airport.
The planned launch in November 2026 will be an important step towards improving cargo and courier connectivity in the Trichy region.
