Bhogapuram Airport News: Jagan Mohan Reddy Targets Naidu Government Over Credit Claim

Bhogapuram Airport News

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government of taking credit for the Bhogapuram Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport project. His remarks came ahead of the airport’s inauguration, which is scheduled to take place on August 1, 2026.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Jagan Mohan Reddy welcomed the inauguration of the airport and described it as an important development for the people of North Andhra. He said the airport would play a major role in improving business, tourism, trade, and regional connectivity. At the same time, he claimed that most of the groundwork and execution of the project had been completed during the previous YSRCP government.

According to Jagan Mohan Reddy, the airport project was significantly advanced while his government was in power. He stated that several important approvals, planning activities, and development work were carried out during the YSRCP administration. He alleged that the current TDP government was trying to take full credit for a project that had largely been developed by the previous government.

The Bhogapuram International Airport, officially named Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, is located in Vizianagaram district near Visakhapatnam. The airport is expected to become one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh and will improve domestic and international air connectivity in the region.

Once operational, the airport is expected to boost tourism, attract new investments, create employment opportunities, and support economic development in North Andhra. It will also reduce pressure on the existing Visakhapatnam Airport and provide better facilities for passengers travelling to and from the state.

The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and several other senior leaders and officials. The state government has been making extensive preparations for the event, including improving roads, strengthening security arrangements, and completing final infrastructure work around the airport.

The political debate over the airport project reflects the continuing rivalry between the YSRCP and the TDP. Both parties have highlighted their contributions to the development of major infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh. While the ruling government has presented the airport as a key achievement, the opposition argues that much of the planning and execution took place under the previous administration.

Despite the political differences, Jagan Mohan Reddy said he welcomed the opening of the airport because it would benefit the people of Andhra Pradesh. He expressed hope that the new airport would become a major centre for economic growth and improve connectivity between North Andhra and other parts of India and the world.

The Bhogapuram International Airport is considered a landmark infrastructure project for the state. As commercial operations begin after its inauguration, the airport is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s aviation sector and contribute to long-term regional development, regardless of the political debate over its origins.
